The boys Varsity Football team was expected to do great things. Certain circumstances meant they would be competing in Division II at the ISST tournament, a division most players thought they didn't deserve to be in. With ten seniors in the squad, Zurich expected a dominant season against their local rivals, but that wasn't the case. A 7-1 loss in the season opener kicked off what would become a habit of losses for the team.

The team struggled. A loss and two draws at the Swiss Northern Schools Tournament for the first time in years, Zurich lost to ICS. They lost to ISZL. Munich came down and beat ZIS twice in two days. Zurich suffered two defeats on their travels in Frankfurt. Tempers were high, blame was be pointed every which way and team moral was low going into SGIS, the Swiss International School's tournament. This tournament was the precursor to the ISST, so Zurich really needed to get on a win.
